Women

Women continue to be the primary victims of domestic violence and our services are designed to meet the needs of women and their children. Whether you need legal or medical support, help to leave an abusive relationship, safetyplan, help with stabilising your affairs, advocacy with government agencies, grants of furniture, clothing or food, or fully supported safe housing, at Te Whakaruruhau we can help. Our services and programmes are designed to lead families towards safety, stability and wellbeing.

Children

Children are the silent victims of domestic violence. At Te Whakaruruhau we see intervention in early childhood a critical step in in preventing the continuation of domestic violence onto the next generation. So we work with your whole family to increase safety for your children and we encourage all parents to develop their parenting skills and ensure that children access quality early childhood education.

Men

Although men are the main perpetrators of domestic violence incidents and homicides, there are few services available and accessible to these men. Anger management, counselling, alcohol and drug programmes generally have long waiting lists and are often court directed placements. We recognise that men need to be involved in all stages of recovery from domestic violence and be held accountable for their actions, while supported to become violence free.
