CRISIS SERVICES - this vital service provides a 24/7 crisis telephone line and a team of trained family violence practitioners who visit the homes of families needing support in times of a crisis;
-
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES - more than just a safe house, our residential services support families to have respite and recover from direct and indirect threats of further violence. Our trained residential practitioners offer a range of in-house programmes that strengthen families while in crisis;
-
COMMUNITY SERVICES - We have a team of trained family violence practitioners who support families remaining in their homes to live free from violence. We will work and support all family members to make positive sustainable changes in their lives.
Sponsorship towards Programmes for:
-
WOMEN - We have a number of programmes that support women who are the primary victims of domestic violence to recover in a safe supportive enviorment. In-house trauma counselling, safe housing, learning to cook and grow their own food, parenting support programmes and budgeting are just few of the programmes we endeavour to provide;
-
CHILDREN - We have a number of programmes that support children who witness or are directly impacted by domestic violence. Our trained practitioners will support children to access specialised programmes, services and support which help them to recover from the adverse impacts of living with violence.
-
MEN - For the past two years we have worked with partners (Men) of families in our service to break the cycle of violence. We support whole families including men committed to make positive changes in their lives through a range of programmes and initiatives.
Sponsorship towards Other Initiatives:
-
STORAGE - Te Whakaruruhau leases a warehouse to manage the intake, storage and distribution of donated goods so generously provided by the public. This valuable service supplies families with basic personal and household items.
-
GARDENS - Over the past year Te Whakaruruhau in collaboration with Te Ao Marama Maori Focus Unit have created a large vegetable garden to support families in our service. Not only does this iniative provide free access to freshly grown vegetables it enables us to support and encourage families to learn how to grow their own food. We need plants, fertilisers, equipment etc... to keep this going.
-
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE - We aim to provide a property maintenance service for families in our service. Many families who access our services are in hardship and poverty. Maintenance of the family home can include, mowing, gardening, trees, rubbish removal and damages to the property from violence. All of these are a huge cost and burden for families recoverying from violence. You can help us make things easier for these families.
-
PURPOSE BUILT CRISIS FACILITY - Our purpose built safe house complex was opened in August 2011. The complex consists of one 6 bedroom and one 4 bedroom house, accommodating women and children who are recovering from family violence. While each whānau shares a bedroom, the rest of the facility is made up of communal living spaces and admin offices. A number of designated outside play areas for children of different ages ensure that whanau have opportunities to learn and play. Security at the purpose facility is a top priority and is staffed 24 hours a day with CCTV to add extra security and protection for whānau and staff members. We can house approx. 30 people on this one site and usually operate at maximum capacity. With such high usage we are always requiring donations of new or near-new furniture and household items. Maintenance is also an area where we sometimes need a helping hand with either donated labour or supplies.
Please contact us to discuss further.
We would like to take the opportunity to recognise and thank everyone who contributes to ensuring Te Whakaruruhau can continue to carry out the work that we do.
Thank you to all our sponsors, foundations and grants, supporters and ambassadors. Your contribution is appreciated.
